Summer gardens and froyo
Summer is almost over and it always goes by faster than I would prefer. Before you know it, Labor day will be here and hot apple cider will dominate the farmers market in Union Square. I love the Fall and apple cider, but summer is never long enough. Good thing that the Olympics are here to steal my attention. The Olympics are in Beijing this year, and it really makes you wonder about the United States foreign policy. It just seems like China is a ginormous version of North Korea. But since you can build Dell computers and Barbie dolls in Chinese factories, we might as well have the Olympics there. Oh let's not forget about Tibet either or their shiny human rights record. Oh wellz.
I saw Blondie and Brownie talk about froyo in soho last week. And I love frozen yogurt at Forty Carrots in Bloomingdale's, therefore it made sense to check out Cafe 504. You get more flavor options at Forty Carrots and that makes it better. At Cafe 504, it is just plain and one flavor of the day. On Sunday they had Dutch Chocolate.
If you visit Cafe 504, swirl is the way to go because plain is the only flavor that is tart. And the tartness makes the froyo experience much more interesting. You also get more bang for the buck because they do not suffer from the hollow center problem.
This week I am going to try to take it easy. We've got something from our friend Jonathan that you'll love. And then maybe I'll do a recipe this week instead of restaurant postings. It's almost mid-August and ripe time to be lazy.
