Summer is for sundaes and cones
No one ever told me that you do not eat ice cream sandwiches in November. Ok, maybe mom did say something about eating a healthy and nutritious snack, and also to stop stuffing my face with cheetos while watching Sportscenter. Maaaaaybe. Last month Robyn wrote about Sundaes and Cones on Serious Eats and I knew that I just had to go. If eating ice cream outdoors in November is wrong, then eating ice cream indoors in July is oh so right.
Every time I see an ice cream shop with flavors like taro and sesame, I get giddy like a little school girl. Ok, maybe not quite like sailor moon and more giddy like a rotund looking teletubby.
I like taro because I think it was meant to be something that would taste great once you mash it up. And I guess you would have to do that somehow if you made it into an ice cream. Another flavor I love is black sesame because of the nutty flavor. Their version of it is like dropping a creamy sesame bomb in your mouth. Yea drop it like it's hot. Or creamy. Whatever, drop it in your mouth. Put food in mouth kids! (OMG that was so disjointed).
Rich, flavorful, and sinfully delicious. Sundaes and Cones is officially my new favorite ice cream shop... in the East Village. Seriously, did you actually think I would say best in the city? That would be too bold, plus ice cream almost always taste good (so says the guy who binges on cheetos...) So if you are ever in the village area, a summer meal would be some dogs at Gray's Papaya and then to Sundaes and Cones for a two scooper.
Oh and a public service announcement. Free slurpees at 7-11 today, July 11th. Check their site for participating locations. Happy Friday!

i love most ice-creams! On your taro note, I once had sweet-potato ice cream at a Japanese restaurant in HK. It tasted like frozen sweet-potato mash, except better (though a little too sweet). I love all nutty ice-creams too...

Amanda,
Winning the lottery without tax payments would be a dream! So maybe I should just eat more ice cream?!
Aubrey,
Yes! Texture! Little pieces! I need to learn how to describe food... haha
Brownie,
Thanks! Yes, I am starting to love Sundaes and Cones as well. It makes summer feel more like summer. :)
Veronica,
Ohhhh sweet potato ice cream!? That sounds really good... maybe like a frozen version of sweet potato pie. Ohhh someone should make that...

Apparently I'm the only one with a dirty mind because i took "Yea drop it like it's hot. Or creamy. Whatever, drop it in your mouth," a completely different way.
