Bbq posts on Food in Mouth
We went to check out the new-ish Whitney Museum by the Meatpacking District the other week. The weather was gorgeous and you could see the Freedom Tower in the skyline very easily. You wouldn’t think a view from a balcony could make you feel small, but somehow at street level it’s often harder to understand the scope of everything; New York moves so fast, with energy levels so high around you, it’s often too easy to think all of it is normal. We didn’t dine at Untitled and given that they’re in the news this week for altering their business strategy as it pertains to tipping, it would have been great to post about that. But we didn’t eat there and ended up with a fried chicken sandwich from Mighty Quinn’s…. [Continue reading]

The other day I met this kid who’s a junior in computer science at Hunter College. During the course of our conversation he asked where I had gone to school for undergrad and I mentioned NYU. His eyes widened and instantly he perked up and asked me how it was. It was as if he asked, “How is the Playboy Mansion?” Except all I thought was, “You code just as well as I do and I’m back in school. So… NYU == Hunter.” I never know how to answer when for the question of, “How was NYU?” It was a ripoff. Maybe next time I should say, “Well, it ain’t Columbia.” Part of me wants to believe that in a different city, maybe the question would be different. It’ll probably be the same. We went to eat barbecue the other day and it was good. BBQ is almost always the same in NYC now, and at a pretty high level. I think when I ask people about BBQ in other parts of the U.S., it’s like that kid asking me about school. We got it pretty good in NYC for barbecue…. [Continue reading]

You can get high quality BBQ brisket on The Highline now. This is what’s awesome about New York. There’s good food everywhere if you want to pay for it. I don’t remember exactly the price of the brisket platter from Brisket Town, but it was in the $10 to $12 range I think. They accept credit card though, so at least you ain’t gotta worry about cash…. Summer is here! Summer is for barbecue. Actually I have had a problem lately with fattier foods like fried chicken and too much BBQ. While I’m still always enthused with eating greasy food, apparently my body is not as great at absorbing the grease, if you know what I mean. Mmmm… what a tasty nugget of a sentence that was. I wonder if that ever happens to Pete Wells… But onto delicious BBQ because brown food is delicious. Mighty Quinn’s BBQ is currently the reigning king of BBQ in New York City, owing to the fact that they’re more better on more things than any other place…. [Continue reading]

There’s something about being older that really just ticks me off. It’s like, the things you never thought you’d do, you start doing. For example, liking a show that’s broadcast on PBS. Motherfucker. Don’t get me wrong, Downton Abbey is a great show but shit. My AARP card must not be far behind. Take that with my decreased affinity for physical activity and loud noises, I think I should just stock up now on Fixadent. You know what else is annoying as you get older? Fussing over the new hotness is just not my bag. I’m with Tommy Lee Jones, I want the old and busted. I guess recently there was a new barbeque player in New York City and it was a pop-up operation. Now they’re going by the name of Brisket Town. You gotta buy tickets and shit. Figure out where it’s gonna be. Blah blah blah. What time does fucking bingo start? Motherfucker. I ain’t got time to figure that shit out. I just go straight to a brick and mortar restaurant because you know, I can find it on a map. Hill Country Barbeque is still kicking and if you didn’t know, got reviewed by Pete Wells just this summer. Still relevant? For damn sure…. [Continue reading]
