France posts on Food in Mouth
If there’s one French food item that I think should be easy for most Asians to really love, it’s escargot. The reason is that escargot is kind of a texture dish, which you normally don’t see in French cooking. Snails don’t taste like much, I don’t think, but they are transformed into something awesome when you add butter, garlic, and parsley in the correct proportions. Just like how a Chinese guy might order some tripe at dim sum, it’s kind of the same thing. The item simply is a sauce delivery vehicle…. [Continue reading]

Any time a city boy can wake up and chunk bread at willing sheep in the morning is a good morning. I mean that in the most literal sense. Steph’s parents have (from what I can see) two sheep next door. They were just hanging around and we gave them some bread and they ate it pretty hastily. For the Christmas day lunch, we started with some toast and foie gras because we could. I actually eat as much foie gras as I can to spite animal rights nutsos. I think foie gras is the original meat butter. At Del Posto, they provide some lard when your bread comes, but nothing beats dead duck liver. Mmmm, McDonalds needs to get on that. Fast food liver. It works out perfectly now that my adult holidays are usually filled with food. Christmas eve meal with Steph’s parents was special and abundant. We started with some oysters from Cancale. I wondered how they settled on the particular poissoneire, but when we arrived to pick up the oysters, it was easy to see because Cancale has many places that sell oysters, but this one had a line of fifteen or so that waited patiently…. I’m fortunate enough to have been to France multiple times, and not many Americans can say that. So it’s easier for me to say that while the French are known for their culinary creations and traditions, it’s obvious to anyone that regular everyday folks eat junk food. They sell Cheetos in France. We were in the local supermarket so Steph and I picked a bag of store brand bacon snacks! Woo! French junk food y’all…. [Continue reading]
