Italian posts on Food in Mouth

We wait forever for the thing to come and save us. A lottery ticket, a Modern Love column that actually ends in love, and of course, summer in New York City. There’s a restaurant in the city that tries to invoke the idea of summer all year long. That restaurant is Santina. It makes absolute sense to have endless summer because it’s the season that makes New York come alive. We were able to walk in and eat at the bar on a week day, which is probably the best time to try hard-to-get-into restaurants like this one…. [Continue reading]

A couple of weekends ago my sis landed a new job and to celebrate she organized this karaoke session in k-town. I drank way more than my old ass body could handle, which was pretty much just two beers. Apparently urban dictionary calls dudes like me, “Two beer qu**r” But the day after Steph and I went to get some gut filling food because I needed it. We picked Bar Primi in the East Village because they have large windows in the front which meant natural light was possible, and it’s new-ish so it seem to qualify on my list of places to go. One nice thing about Bar Primi was that they don’t give you bread in the beginning to ruin your appetite. They pull the same move as Otto and give you these thin breadsticks…. [Continue reading]

Pursue your passion. That’s what we always tell the kids. I think I’m finally understanding that type of message in my thirties. You get to this point where basically even if your job is fine, but if you don’t love the type of work, Monday mornings is just like meh. It’s not like when you hate your job, and I’ve done that before where I hated my job so much and went from making money to washing dishes. So when you really hate it, you do something. When you begrudgingly do it, you trudge along. I think when you do that, you miss out on excellence. The kind of excellence you can get at lunch at Del Posto. For $39, Del Posto represents the best four-star dining experience for either the average New Yorker or for a tourist…. [Continue reading]

Marea by Central Park South is a great option if you want to try something fancy for lunch without breaking your budget. Of course Marea is an Italian restaurant so you have to be in the mood for that. As far as whether it’s a deal… they have a ‘business lunch’ which is $45 and gives you two courses. The five course seafood tasting menu is $80. For a very classy restaurant that has fairly good star ratings, this is probably a fair price. I like to think of two course for $45 as paying $30 for an entree or a ‘secondo’, while your appetizer is $15. While not super affordable I think for the type of restaurant that Marea strives to be, it’s a doable deal that those who love eating should try at some point. We went with the five course tasting because we were treating ourselves a few months ago as a Christmas gift. That’s how long my blogging backlog is…… [Continue reading]

For individuals prone to pessimistic thinking, there’s always the danger to not see the world properly the way everyone else sees it. There must be something to the idea that some individuals see the world in rose colored glasses while others are colorblind. With a stylistic menu and a friendly looking counter, one might easily assume that Parm is a just another diner. Except it’s in Little Itatly. In Manhattan. When’s the last time you saw a restaurant dressed as a diner with actual diner personality (and by personality I mean prices)? I wonder how most people see Parm…… [Continue reading]
