One of the things I wonder about getting older is that if the whole Grumpy Old Men thing will take over. I find that it’s easier and easier to be grumpy about things, but that’s not necessarily a good thing. There’s plenty to be happy about in the world. For example, last week wifey made us some olive oil cake. It was really fucking delicious. It had some crunchy bits around the edges and inside it was very moist. It is in these simple pleasures that I find the greatest enjoyment in life. … [Continue reading]

Damn you iPhone 6. Every time I walk by the store, there’s a line of Chinese immigrants standing outside. Sure, I’m guilty of stereotyping them, but if the ones in front of the Apple store barely speak English and basically stand there to sell their phones to middle men who then sell it in China. For now, we wait for the Chinese market to be satisfied first? How many people over there could possibly want to pay 3x, which is 2100 dollars for a phone? I’m just not sure…. What I am sure about is that even though today is the first day of Autumn, it’s still good time to eat ice cream. After eating smoked whitefish donburi at Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop, we walked 10 seconds around the corner to Jenni’s ice cream, which had a popup at the Gotham West Market…. [Continue reading]

If there’s one philosophy that I’ve adopted over the years when it comes to life, it’s this: fuck work. Yea yea, you gotta pay your bills, but generally work shouldn’t be taken so seriously unless you’re one of the select few that’s either rich or loves your job. Good for you asshole. But for the rest of us, I think it’s important to never leave your vacation days on the table. Too bad if your boss isn’t accommodating to you taking days off. Those days are yours, just fucking use them. How to use them is tough though. I have four days left for 2014 and I’m not sure whether to disperse them to have multiple three day weekends or just to have a really long weekend once? Decisions, decisions… Steph and I had already been to Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop in Gotham West Market, but I had never tried their rice bowls…. [Continue reading]

When I was in Michigan, I picked up some local Michigan beer from Short’s Brewing Company, and it made me think it would be a good idea whenever I visited a state. So in Rhode Islande I picked up a six pack of beer made by Foolproof Brewing Company of Pawtucket, RI. The packaging of their beer was what drew me to look at it in the first place since I knew nothing about Rhode Island beer. It turned out to be a good choice though…. [Continue reading]

You know that saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” That’s a common way of thinking when computer folks think about updating their servers and shit. Object A depends on Object B, why update B when it might fuck up A. You gotta test it in a test environment first before trying it in production, but then do you have time to do that when you have deliverables. Blah blah, FUCKING blah. However, it is a theory I take to heart when it comes to my wardrobe. What do I mean? “This hoodie has been in production for five years, why do I need to get a new one?” That’s almost verbatim to wifey, the other night. A new hoodie, but whyyyyyy? The old one just works. Anyway, I’m losing the new hoodie battle, but trying new things is totally cool when it comes to food. A few weekends ago we were in Providence looking for some breakfast/brunch food. And since it’s a small-ish city, I figured yelp would be as good of a site as any to find out where to go. The number two place in Providence according to them is Nicks on Broadway…. [Continue reading]
