With social networking surrounding us day and night, sometimes it's hard to run out of things to say. Between blogging, twitter, facebook, tumblr, and god knows what else, the options are endless. In the end, social media is marked by the things you cannot say as opposed to the things you can say, and how easy it is to say it. When it comes to diets, it's all too easy to be shaped by restrictions in what one can eat. Sometimes it's the things you can't say and the foods you're not supposed to be eating that truly shape or haunt you. Trois Pommes Patisserie Review: Peanut butter cookie from Trois Pommes
Happy New Year! That gets old after a while so this will be my official post to wish everyone well in 2009. It should be a great year full of good eats like burgers, cupcakes, pizzas, and of course, cookies. The cookie you see here is from Trois Pommes Patisserie in Park Slope Brooklyn. Sometimes people say that a certain food item was a revelation, as if it could transcend the boundaries of food and change your life. This didn't exactly happen, but I did have a revelation while I ate the cookie. It's not exactly the same, you see. Revelation number one. Holy shit, $2.50 for ONE cookie? WTF has this world come to? Porchetta Review: Porchetta sandwich is juicy perfection
Wrapping paper. Christmas carols. Yahoo sports fantasy basketball. If this was an old school SAT question, which one doesn't fit? I know! Christmas carols! Just kidding, I actually like this time of the year, and being that obnoxious person on the subway platform who whistles silent night a little too loudly at 1am. Applebees can be decent
I love shitty American chain restaurants that many New York food blog readers do not like. I grew up loving the likes of Chili's, Applebees, Macaroni Grill, and Outback Steakhouse. Really, when I was a kid, the place to go for steaks was Outback. Sure, there was Ruth's Chris but they didn't have no Bloomin' Onion so fuck that. But now those places are supposed to be avoided if you take your palate seriously. Within NYC city limits, I've actually been to Outback like ten times but only between 2000 and 2005. That's probably the record for anyone with a food blog that's been running for at least four years. Does that mean my palate got more sophisticated?! Nah, unlikely. I would still love a Bloomin' Onion. The thing about chain restaurants like Outback or Applebees is that they are WAY BETTER IN THE SUBURBS....
