Pizza posts on Food in Mouth

The magical carpet ride of living in New York City for wife and me will end in the summer of 2016. We’ve decided that after graduate school, the only thing that’s going to keep wifey and me here in New York is finding the dream job. Or the way I like to phrase it to people around me is, “If I can somehow trick Google or Facebook into hiring me, then it’s doable to stay in New York.” It would seem that those companies don’t let too many through the cracks. And it doesn’t have to be those two as long as it’s a good tech company. I’m not a betting man, but the odds for leaving are good…. [Continue reading]

Along with school, I’ve started to look for new work opportunities, and that has also cut down on my free time. For those who have security at their jobs or those who haven’t looked for work in a while, or for those who are great at what they do, there’s this underlying thing about a career that those people just don’t know. There’s a secret, but I’ll get to that later. The secret to eating well during the hours when the sun is out on the weekend in NYC is to skip those brunch thingies. Yes brunch can be good. While there are good options, often times there are still better options, better strategies. A great alternative is to go eat pizza. In particular, go eat the Grandma (pizza) Pie at GG’s Pizza in the East I illage…. [Continue reading]

We were excited to visit Marta for pizza because there really aren’t any popular Roman pizzerias in New York. It seems like folks have settled into the idea that there are essentially two classes of pizzas, one is the classic New York style that’s a large pie meant to be shared (and sometimes sold in slices) and the second is the Neapolitan pies that’s more of a personal pie with a floppy center and hardly ever sold by the slide. I really had no idea what a Roman style pizza besides that it’s supposed to be thin…. [Continue reading]

One of the things around the holiday season is that I like eating comfort food. Maybe it’s blasphemous to talk about a non-rice, non-noodles dish as being comfort food for an Asian, but I find pizza to be a form of comfort food these days. One of the key aspect of comfort food to me is that it has to make me feel full. Oh and obviously it has to be affordable too. Motorino location in the East Village continues to be one of the best places for pizza in the city for me…. [Continue reading]

You know what gets me about looking for a job? This might not be applicable for every industry, but in the programming world, it’s essentially like the high fashion modeling world, except instead of sexiness, it’s about raw brain power. It’s not about how much you can starve yourself or how many cleanses you do a month. It’s instead about how fast you can think of solutions on a white board and how elegant those solutions are. Just as genes dictate how one may or may not walk down the runway, your critical/quantitative/analytical mental development (up to this point in life) dictates how qualified you are. All this is to say… they’re basically grading you on how smart you are. Which is also to say that when startups and established tech giants turn me down, they’re just saying, “Not smart enough.” They’re probably also telling me that I watch too much TV. I think in the food world it’s probably the same way. If a restaurant is just that goddamn delicious, it’s going to survive. If you don’t make it, not delicious enough…. [Continue reading]
