Rant posts on Food in Mouth

I am a dad now! It’s only been about a month, and it’s as surreal to write that now was it was when my son first came into the world. Being parents to a newborn is fucking hard. That’s the part in the fine print of the parent instruction manual that probably isn’t as talked about. Eating out at restaurants has taken a backseat to keeping a tiny human alive. So essentially my son has become cockblock to foodinmouth! So inconsiderate!… [Continue reading]

New Years Resolutions are pretty bullshit. In fact this January has been one of the slowest month for me in terms of going to the gym in a very long time. But I think talking about New Years Resolutions is just pretty stupid. Everyone talks about it and yet no one really cares if you follow through with it, unless you’re a junkie and your family cares about your resolution to stop using. Jeremy keeps saying my blog should just be called Danny’s rants and I figure since the analytics have dropped to around 50 on a good day, it really is just a collection of people on my very small facebook group that would ever visit. So today let’s talk about the morality of having children. Because while I believe in just about every single progressive social value, it seems as though the liberals never talk about whether having children is a question of morality…. [Continue reading]

One of the things I wonder about getting older is that if the whole Grumpy Old Men thing will take over. I find that it’s easier and easier to be grumpy about things, but that’s not necessarily a good thing. There’s plenty to be happy about in the world. For example, last week wifey made us some olive oil cake. It was really fucking delicious. It had some crunchy bits around the edges and inside it was very moist. It is in these simple pleasures that I find the greatest enjoyment in life. … [Continue reading]

It must take a special breed to really enjoy the life of constantly traveling and being a consultant type that flies every week. I was only in the airport for the first time in 2014 in late August and I couldn’t really stand it. Just the atmosphere and the air is different at the airport. Or maybe the rest of the world likes it and it’s just me being Danny. There’s always that! But at the Detroit airport’s McNamara Terminal, you can have a glimpse into something that’s iconic in the Detroit area… the Coney. It’s kind of jarring if you’re from New York because driving around Detroit and it’s surrounding cities/suburbs you’ll surely drive by restaurants with names like [blahblah] Coney Island. And it’s like, “WTF is the fascination with Coney Island? That piece of shit dump is dirty as fuck.” And that’s a compliment… But actually in Michigan, Coney Island is a type of Greek restaurant that is known for hot dogs of a special variety and also having Greek diner food. Yea right? Mindblown…. [Continue reading]

When you live in New York for a while, you kind of forget what it is like to be in the suburbs. You can’t just jump into a subway, lose yourself on your personal electronic devide and then arrive at your destination. In New York sometimes it makes sense when you find hip restaurants in the East Village or Chinese food in Chinatown or Flushing. But in the suburbs, it’s scattered strip malls and you have to drive from place to place to get to that thing that you want. So yea, there’s good-enough egg tarts in one strip mall, and then maybe ten minutes away in another strip mall there’s some dim sum. I think that’s the one thing that’s awesome about New York because if your dim sum place is crowded, you can walk to the next one. In the suburbs, the next one might be a thirty minute drive away….
