Junmen Ramen has a good bowl of noodles

One of the things that is really new about being a parent is the little things that make you geek out and have a positive reaction. I can imagine this is what life is like for people who love cosplay or bird watching. Before the baby, I remember there were times when I would feel proud over a lame-ass attempt at a recipe and Steph would lovingly tell me it's edible even if it was merely mediocre. Now, I realize that type of proud feeling pales in comparison to something like watching the baby do any little thing like, "He put his hands together!" And it sounds facetious but it really isn't. Just go google 'instagram baby' and you'll see parents love capturing moments of their baby. And all this time oogling our baby certainly makes any moment of eating out at a restaurant kind...

Store bought Taro Ice Cream

Seeing how as my blog is much less about food and more about whatever the fuck I want to talk about, I'd like to take a moment and say that it's quite unfair that Doogie Howser can be a doctor as a teenager, and go home and night and write something pithy in his DOS command-prompt journal. Meanwhile, I have no idea how to really look at my life. Thanks for giving me the inferiority complex, Neil Patrick Harris. Coco Review: Coco bubble tea and price discrimination

Last month there was word about a new bubble tea place in Midtown. Midtown Lunch uncovered the new chain in Midtown East. Apparently the chain is from Taiwan and the prices are right for midtown. Usually bubble tea in NYC is priced outrageously compared to what you might find in the bubble tea motherland of Taiwan. But if it's between $3 to $4 and it's not in Chinatown, that's as good as it gets. One can tell that Coco Bubble Tea is different just from some of items on the menu. I got the drink called 3 Guys. It has pudding, grass jelly, and tapioca or boba. Google tells me that bubble teas are fairly high in calories. Probably somewhere between 250 to 500 calories depending on size, sweetness, and amount and type of milk added. When you put pudding in there, it probably doesn't help...

How to make ramen at home

Making ramen at home is difficult. The difficulty level increases when I screw up the recipe in addition to being a complete newbie to this. Mostly I find this to be more along the lines of 'playing with food' rather than actual cooking. I got the recipe from Lucky Peach issue 1, which is not being sold anymore. You can find issue 2 on Amazon now. [Full disclosure: I add my affiliate code to amazon links.] The recipe is simple enough, and I'll talk about it in a minute, but it really isn't as easy as it seems. There's actually only three ingredients, which would lead one to believe it would be easy.. but it ain't easy unless you good at this shit, which I'm not. So let's get to it. I've been going to Ikea a lot lately because I'm moving to a different apartment. Don't worry, I'm not going far, and I'm still going to be here to write about food in New York and Brooklyn. Dear Chris Webber, This is an open letter to you, NBA baller, lover of steak sauce, and overall cool dude on NBA TV.
