Bowery Diner Review: Burgers at Bowery Diner

" I work long hours, I have a dog and a wife. There’s not a lot of available time for consuming any culture: TV, movies, books. When I read, it’s generally magazines, newspapers and Web sites." I saw that quote today. It's interesting to me because it's a quote from a highly successful person. It seem to mean that having success results in not watching cheesy shows on USA (Suits! White Collar!) or following more critically acclaimed stuff like Game of Thrones and Girls on HBO. Life without Neal Caffrey and Mike Ross is no life of mine. Although it probably is one where your building doesn't smell like rice and onions all the time and where you don't have to worry about potential corporate downsizing at your job. Lately I've been looking into finding another more stable job and man, that shit takes a...

May Chan Ramen and Robatayaki Review: May chan ramen in the East Village

The old saying goes, "You can never have too much of a good thing." Before you think about whether you generally agree with that statement, let's apply that phrase to ramen restaurants in the East Village. Ippudo remains my favorite, although I like the straight up simplicity of Rai Rai Ken. And if Minca wasn't all the way by Avenue A, I would visit much more often. Since I'm open to any new ramen place, when May Chan opened up, I had to go give it a try. In addition to ramen, May Chan also has grilled skewers, and pajeon on the menu. I didn't want to try the skewers...

Fifth Avenue Street Fair

Whenever there's a street fair in New York City, there's always people selling one special item. It's not lemonade or sausages or funnel cake or even mozerella filled corn cakes. It's socks. For some strange reason there's always at least one table where some dude is selling like five pairs of socks for ten dollars. Yesterday in the Fifth Avenue Street Fair in Park Slope, there was even a table that proclaimed they had the "World's softest socks." They didn't look like the softest socks in the world, so I passed. My focus was on the food. I wanted to really like the Fifth Avenue Street Fair even though most street fairs suck. But this time, I found a $5 dollar pulled pork sandwich from Bonnie's Grill that might change my view on street fairs. When pulled pork is mentioned, I immediately think about Carolina style...
