Food in Mouth

Semi-homemade ice cream sandwich

When you're feeling lazy because the weather is so nice, you just don't want to stay in the kitchen and cook. Fall weather in New York is fickle. It comes and goes and it's over before you know it. It's best to enjoy it while it's here. What do you do then? You go with the semi-homemade route of course. Yea that's right, I said it - semi-homemade. If you've ever seen the Food Network with any regularity, you must be familiar with the schtick of Sandra Lee. That's what Food in Mouth is all about today. Today we're going to satisfy my sweet tooth, Andrew Cuomo style. (I'm assuming because they're a couple, that he down wit the semi-homemade deal). If you've never seen the show before, maybe you need to watch Ms. Lee tackle the kwanzaa cake here. See? Simple. All you do is...

Mille-feuille Review: Mille-Feuille has buttery croissants

My very first digital camera was purchased online sometime around 2003? It featured 3 megapixels and it was from FujiFilm. I must have read like fifty reviews just to make sure it was a good deal, and finally purchased it from Gateway. Remember them? They used to compete with Dell, and they had boxes painted like dairy cows. The best part of the camera was that they messed up on shipping and gave me two cameras. Sold one to a friend and made some extra pocket change. With that little point-and-shoot, New York City looked really cool to me. Everything was novel. I took pictures of everything. Luckily, my laptop harddrive died in 2004/5 and I don't ever back up data. Pictures of everything is nice because every day something happens and then it just goes away. Your mind doesn't have enough space to keep...

Del Posto Review: Four star lunch in New York City

Pursue your passion. That's what we always tell the kids. I think I'm finally understanding that type of message in my thirties. You get to this point where basically even if your job is fine, but if you don't love the type of work, Monday mornings is just like meh. It's not like when you hate your job, and I've done that before where I hated my job so much and went from making money to washing dishes. So when you really hate it, you do something. When you begrudgingly do it, you trudge along. I think when you do that, you miss out on excellence. The kind of excellence you can get at lunch at Del Posto. For $39, Del Posto represents the best four-star dining experience for either the average New Yorker or for a tourist. The first time that Steph and I ate...

Rack and Soul Review: Food prepared with precision

Cooks and chefs are just like basketball players. Individuals in both professions go through many stages in their careers. It's more fun following basketball because the careers are defined in a short period of time. Since the NBA is ultra competitive, it is easy to follow the arc of a player's career. In the lifetime of a fan, one could follow the entire careers of many players. At the beginning, it's always difficult to tell who would do well. Evidence #1 is Sam Bowie. If you're not a rabid fan of the Association and don't know who he is, Mr. Bowie was the guy drafted ahead of Michael Jordan in the 1984 NBA Draft. And all of you probably know MJ (bald guy, sick dunker, could play a little bit, etc.) Lately in a lot of draft predictions, prognosticators like to talk about "love of...
