Authenticity and boring panini

Welcome to the final post of Danny is a Motherfucker week. Today's main target is this place called Fig and Olive. The only thing I have to say is that, sheeeeeeeiiit, $15 dollars!?! For a panini?! You must be crazy. What do I look like, the golden goose? My mind is on this because I watched No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain was talking to someone and said "Authenticity is overrated." And a few weeks ago Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit said in his twitter, "No such thing as 'authentic' fried chicken, biscuits, pizza, mole, ramen, dumplings, cassoulet, meatballs, etc. & that's a good thing." I have to agree to some extent. Because the reason I didn't enjoy the panini at Fig and Olive had nothing to do with the level of authenticity, it had to do with the fact that it sucked and it was...

Is Five Hour Energy a bogus energy drink

5 hr energy falls under the umbrella of energy drinks. The very first one I had was in college and it was Red Bull. I felt nothing. Heaven. It made my heart beat so fast. Faster than some other life experiences I won't talk about because my parents read my blog. Back to the energy drinks. They've gotta hit me like my first experiences with coffee. Otherwise it is a bust. If...

Bill's Bar and Burger Review: Bill's Burger and a rant about auctions

When it comes to American classics, quite a few things come to mind. Of course you have the All-American pie or the awesome donut. Even beating out those two things is the hamburger. It's so much a classic that you can even find it in France. Here in NY, almost everyone likes Shake Shack. They perfected the burger and then came along this new player in the smashed burger scene, Bill's Bar and Burger. The original location is in the Meatpacking although now they got one in Rockefeller Center too. How do these patties stack up? As a notorious line-hater, I just can't stand being in a queue for long periods of time. Sure the weather might be nice and you might want to have your burger in a park...
